That is, indeed, a pretty ridiculous headline. But it’s Donald Trump that’s doing the picking and, as we have seen in the past, there’s no telling what will come out of that mashed pumpkin of a brain. His choice for the job, Brett Kavanaugh is enough of a mystery to typical people (me and you, that would be) that we can’t assume much about him at all except that he is the man Trump wants on the bench, which is a bad enough thing.
It would probably be hyperbolic to predict this means the end of Roe V. Wade as an opening for abortions, should you want or need one. People who argued this is settled law (whatever that means) are ignoring the fact that anti-abortion activists have been pushing and pushing to break the back of the measure for a couple of decades now.
But I don’t think it’s the right measure.
With respect to women, including those who would never consider an abortion for themselves but who believe access for anyone is important, it’s one case. This guy, relatively young, could be around for decades slamming just about anything vaguely progressive that comes along. Name your agenda item, he could put a right wing stamp on it.
Fortunately, we have a judiciary committee that will be looking deeply….wait a minute. I don’t have any faith in that process either.
My faith resides in the election process. So, as I have said about a million times in the past few decades, grease up your stuff and get ready to vote.
It is our only real hope.
